It's been 1.5 months since we got our Japanese Spitz puppy and she has been an absolute joy. Much thanks to Yvonne for answering all our questions and being so helpful in sharing information on caring for our little pup. She had a clean bill of health and came home healthy, energetic and quite well adjusted. After purchasing this little one, we still keep in touch with Yvonne and are grateful for the after sales support indeed. :)

I got my family’s dream dog, a Papillion-Japanese spitz mix at Pretty Pet’s Kennel! I’m very grateful to Yvonne who introduced me to the designer mix dog. According to Google, it has better tolerance with Singapore’s humid heat vs Pomsky (or pure Japanese spitz). Pretty Pets Kennel designer mixes can be rare and have high visibility, so it’s important to secure them quickly if you really desire them. I’m lucky Yvonne kept me up to date on the sale this litter. ❤️ After I brought him back, Yvonne checked in daily for about 3 days to make sure the puppy was settling well and I was doing all the right things. I’m lucky that he is about 50% toilet trained from the moment I brought him in. Perhaps it’s also part of Pretty Pets structure that he is partly toilet trained. They also ethically check on some viruses before they release the pup.

We’ve had such a lovely experience with them, from the very first time we met Yvonne to even after Pebbles came home. We actually chanced upon this place quite randomly and very much on a whim. Our boy had very recently left us, and at the time we were simply looking around — not even specifically for another puppy. Yvonne was extremely warm and took the time to get to know us. When she found out that we had previously had a Japanese Spitz, she asked if we would like to have a look at the puppies. I don’t think we need to say much more after that. ❤️ Our puppy girl came home with us the following week. What really impressed us was seeing how well the furkids/babies were cared for. We know that, unfortunately, the conditions in these situations are not always ideal, so it was reassuring to see the care and attention given to the puppies. We were even able to interact with our puppy’s birth parents, which was something really special for us. The aftercare has been just as lovely. Yvonne continues to check in with us and follows up to make sure everything is alright, and she has always been there when we have questions or concerns. We really appreciate that the care didn’t simply stop once our puppy went home. There is probably never a “right” time to welcome another furkid after losing one. We certainly weren’t looking to replace our boy, and we know our hearts weren’t really prepared for another puppy so soon. But we are incredibly grateful for that one simple question that led us to meet our little puppy girl. Thank you, Yvonne, for bringing our little puppy girl into our lives. ❤️🐾

Jared has been extremely helpful and caring from the very beginning when we welcomed our Pomeranian, Kai, into our family. Although I have had dogs before, having a puppy is a new experience for our children, and there were many things for us to learn and adjust to together. Jared really went above and beyond. He even created a group chat to keep in touch with us, follow up on Kai’s daily progress, and make sure we were doing well and taking good care of him. Whenever we had questions or were unsure about something, he was always patient, responsive and ready to guide us. What we appreciate most is that his care didn’t stop after we brought Kai home. You can really feel that he genuinely cares about the puppies and wants them to settle happily into their new families. Thank you, Jared, for all your help, patience and care. You made welcoming Kai into our family such a smooth and reassuring experience. 🩵🐶 Highly recommended! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Beagle Breed: History and Origins

Originally, Beagles were bred for hunting small game. They were especially useful in tracking hare thanks to their exceptional scenting ability.

In the 19th century, modern Beagles were developed in England. Breeders aimed for a dog with a superior sense of smell and stamina. The breed’s popularity increased quickly, both as a working dog and a companion.

Some essential points about Beagle history include:

  • Origins trace back to ancient Greece.
  • Modern Beagles developed in 19th-century England.
  • Recognised by AKC in the late 1800s.

Their rich history has made Beagles a staple in canine society. Today, Beagles are cherished pets and loyal companions across the globe.

Beagle Characteristics and Appearance

Beagles are charming dogs, known for their adorable looks and expressive eyes. The expressive eyes of a Beagle are another feature that endears them to many pet lovers. They typically weigh between 9 to 14 kilograms.

Their coat is short and dense, making grooming a simple task. Beagles come in a variety of colours, including the well-known tri-colour pattern.

Beagles are distinguished by their long, floppy ears. They have long, floppy ears that enhance their sense of smell and tracking ability.

Personality-wise, Beagles are friendly and curious. They enjoy spending time with family members and meeting new people. Known for their social nature, they often seek companionship from other dogs, too.

Beagle Temperament and Behaviour

Beagles are known for their playful and affectionate temperament. They thrive in environments where they receive ample attention and interaction.

Beagles need to be given plenty of attention and interaction to prevent boredom. Their social nature makes them good companions for both people and other pets.

When it comes to training Beagles, their independent streak can be challenging. While Beagles are generally friendly, they can be stubborn at times.

These dogs are highly energetic and love to explore. Beagles have high exercise needs and benefit from daily walks and playtime. To keep them healthy, it’s important to exercise Beagles regularly. Due to their strong sense of smell, they can become easily distracted by interesting scents.

Beagles also possess a keen instinct for adventure and exploration. Beagles are known as escape artists, so secure fencing is essential. However, leaving them alone for extended periods can lead to boredom and destructive behaviour.

It’s important to note that they are prone to separation anxiety due to their pack mentality. So it’s important to provide them with enough mental and physical stimulation to keep them happy.

Beagle Socialisation: Building Relationships

Your beagle’s naturally sociable nature makes them absolute little bundles of joy in any family setting. This wonderful social ability doesn’t just help them bond closely with you and your loved ones – it’s also what helps them settle into new environments and make friends wherever they go.

Early socialisation is particularly crucial for a beagle puppy, and we can’t stress enough how this gentle introduction to the world will help prevent any timid or anxious behaviours later on.

When it comes to socialising your beagle, you’ll find that puppy training classes, dog meetups, and community events are brilliant opportunities. These experiences let your furry friend encounter different people, animals, and environments in a positive way.

Through these gentle interactions, your beagle will naturally learn how to express themselves appropriately whilst building that all-important confidence and sense of security that’ll serve them well throughout their life.

You’ll quickly discover that beagles have this wonderful way of forming deep emotional connections with their human families. They’ll show their love through those gentle, soulful eyes, enthusiastic tail wagging, and those precious affectionate gestures that’ll melt your heart.

If you’ve got children or elderly family members at home, you’ll be pleased to know that beagles typically adapt beautifully to households with different age groups. Their natural patience and gentle tolerance make them ideal family companions, really.

Beagle and Other Dogs: Compatibility and Interaction

As typical pack hounds, Beagles naturally love spending time with other dogs. You’ll find they’re usually friendly in multi-dog households and genuinely enjoy being part of group activities. Whether they’re interacting with fellow beagle dogs or mixing with different breeds, beagles tend to show lovely adaptability and a wonderfully inclusive nature.

That said, when they’re meeting new friends for the first time, you’ll want to guide them patiently. We’d suggest choosing neutral territory – perhaps a local park – for those initial introductions, which helps avoid any resource guarding issues.

Beagles love getting to know new companions through sniffing and playing, so do keep an eye on their body language to ensure everyone’s comfortable and happy during these meet-ups.

If you’ve already got other pets at home, introducing a new family member gradually is absolutely key. You’ll want to set up separate food bowls, toys, and resting spots for each dog, which really helps reduce competition and stress.

Beagles’ lively personalities can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming for older or quieter dogs, so it’s worth adjusting how often and how they interact based on what works for your particular pack.

When you’re out and about with your Beagle, they might show tremendous interest in unfamiliar dogs. You’ll need to use a proper lead and manage distances carefully to prevent any conflicts that could arise from over-excitement.

Beagle Health: Common Issues and Lifespan

One common health issue in Beagles is hip dysplasia. This condition affects the hip joint and can lead to arthritis. Maintaining a healthy weight is crucial for the breed, as excess weight can worsen joint problems. Regular exercise helps keep their joints strong and flexible.

Beagles are also prone to ear infections due to their long floppy ears. Regular cleaning can help prevent these infections. These infections are often recognised by the standards set by the American Kennel Club and the Kennel Club in England. Keep their ears dry and clean to reduce the risk of bacteria build-up.

Obesity is another concern in Beagles. They love food and can easily gain weight if overfed. Owners should provide a balanced diet and monitor calorie intake. Using food puzzles can slow down their eating and provide mental stimulation.

In terms of lifespan, Beagles can live between 12 to 15 years with proper care. Their longevity depends on factors like diet, exercise, and regular veterinary care. Providing them with a loving and active environment contributes to a happy, healthy life.

Beagle Care: Nutrition, Exercise, and Wellbeing

Their diet should be balanced and rich in nutrients. Quality dog food that meets their size, age, and energy needs is essential. With the right balance of nutrients, your Beagle will thrive. Be cautious with treats and avoid table scraps.

Regular exercise is a vital component of Beagle care. Beagles have specific exercise needs that must be met to keep them healthy and happy. Exercise Beagles daily with activities like walking, running, or scent games. To the Beagle, daily walks and playtime are essential for their wellbeing.

Activities such as walking, running, or playing fetch are excellent choices to burn off their energy. Mental stimulation is equally important, so consider training games and interactive toys.

Beagles thrive on routine, and their wellbeing is connected to consistency. Feed your Beagle at the same time every day to establish a consistent routine. This predictability can reduce anxiety and improve their behaviour.

For the best results, monitor your Beagle’s weight and adjust their diet as needed. Choosing the best dog food and exercise routine will help your Beagle live a long, healthy life.

Beagle Grooming: Coat, Ears, and Hygiene

Grooming a Beagle is relatively simple but essential. Their short, dense coat requires minimal maintenance. Brushing once a week is often enough. This keeps their coat shiny and reduces shedding.

Beagles need regular ear care due to their floppy ears. Cleaning their ears is one of the most important grooming tasks for Beagle owners. Moisture and debris can lead to infections. Check their ears weekly and gently clean with a veterinarian-recommended solution. This helps keep infections at bay.

Dental hygiene is another important aspect of Beagle grooming. Brushing their teeth several times a week prevents periodontal disease. You can use dog-friendly toothpaste and a soft brush to keep their teeth healthy.

Additionally, trimming their nails is crucial. Overgrown nails can cause discomfort and affect their walking. Be attentive to their grooming needs by following these simple steps:

  • Brush their coat weekly
  • Clean their ears regularly
  • Maintain dental hygiene
  • Trim nails as needed

Beagle Training: Tips and Challenges

When it comes to training Beagles, patience and consistency are essential due to their independent nature. Training a Beagle can be both rewarding and challenging. Their intelligence makes them capable learners, but their stubborn nature can test patience.

With the right approach, use treats as motivation. Beagles are food-driven and will work hard for a tasty reward. Use their love of treats to reinforce good behaviour. Be cautious not to overfeed, which can lead to obesity, so it’s important to monitor treat portions.

Socialisation is vital for Beagle puppies. Introduce them to various environments, people, and other animals early on. This helps them become well-rounded adults. A well-socialised Beagle tends to be more confident and less anxious.

House training might take time. Beagles can be slow to develop bladder control, so routines need to be consistent and clear. Take them out frequently and reward success.

If you have access to professional trainers or puppy classes, these can be helpful resources. Stay positive and patient throughout the process.

Beagle Puppies: What to Expect

These pups are bundles of energy and curiosity.Beagle pups are especially curious and require close supervision. They require constant supervision and a safe environment. Pups are naturally playful, so prepare for lots of activities.

These pups have a mischievous side. Their curiosity can lead to chewing and exploring everywhere. Provide plenty of chew toys to protect your belongings and satisfy their chewing urge.

Expect early training to be a part of daily life. Beagle pups are eager learners but can be easily distracted. Keep training sessions short, consistent, and fun to maintain their interest.

Here’s what you can expect with Beagle pups:

  • Endless energy and playfulness
  • Chewing and exploring everything
  • Early socialisation is essential
  • Short but regular training sessions
  • Consistent supervision and care

As they grow, Beagle puppies will become more independent but still need consistent training. With proper care, they will develop into friendly, loyal companions.

Beagle Dogs Cost: Purchase, Setup, and Ongoing Expenses

Purchasing a Beagle usually comes with an initial cost that varies. Depending on the source, prices typically range from $3,000 to $8,000.

Consider the following expenses when planning for a Beagle:

  • Initial purchase price
  • Setup essentials like bedding and toys
  • Ongoing monthly food and care costs
  • Veterinary visits and health care
  • Emergency funds for unforeseen issues

How to Be a Good Beagle Owner

Understanding the breed’s unique characteristics and needs is absolutely essential, and it’s something we’re passionate about helping you with.

Your beagle will thrive with regular exercise, a balanced diet, and plenty of mental stimulation. Setting aside enough time each day for walks and play isn’t just good fun – it’s your best strategy for preventing obesity and behavioural issues that can develop when these clever dogs get bored.

Here in Singapore, ensuring your dog ownership is completely legal is particularly important, and we can’t stress this enough. You’ll want to choose an AVS-certified and registered breeder, like Pretty Pets Kennel, to ensure your beagle puppy comes with proper health documentation, vaccinations, and legal registration.

Continuous learning is what separates good owners from truly great ones, and it’s something we genuinely admire. Whether you’re reading specialist books, attending pet care workshops, or joining local dog owner communities, staying informed about the latest care techniques and knowledge is invaluable.

When questions arise – and they will – don’t hesitate to reach out to your vet or the Pretty Pets team! We’re all about ensuring the dogs we’ve homed live their best possible life.

Most importantly, you’ll need to give your beagle the companionship and love they’re absolutely craving. These wonderful dogs are desperate to form deep emotional bonds with their families, and it’s only in a truly loving environment that beagles can show you just how remarkable they really are.

Fun Beagle Facts and Famous Beagles

Did you know that the character Snoopy from the comic strip “Peanuts” is a Beagle? He embodies the breed’s playful and imaginative side.

Here are a few fun facts about Beagles:

  • Known as excellent scent hounds
  • Originated over 2,000 years ago
  • Recognised for their tri-colour coat
  • Part of the hound group in the AKC
  • Used in ancient Greece for hunting

These fascinating traits and roles have cemented Beagles as beloved companions and cultural icons.

The Future of the Beagle

As society’s awareness around pet health and wellbeing continues to grow, we’re seeing exciting developments in the future of beagles. If you’re considering one of the most beloved family pets, you’ll find that beagles make wonderful companion dogs.

Looking ahead, responsible breeding and scientific dog care are becoming the industry standard, with AVS-certified kennels providing healthier, more temperamentally sound beagle puppies to caring families like yours.

As pet-friendly policies expand and community activities become more inclusive, your beagle will have wonderful opportunities to participate in social life and perhaps even become a beloved neighbourhood favourite.

Whether you’re a first-time dog owner or someone with years of experience, choosing a healthy, legally bred beagle with a lovely temperament will bring endless joy and warmth into your home.

Conclusion: Is the Beagle Right for You?

Deciding if a Beagle is right for you requires considering their lively nature and care needs. Beagles are ideal for families, but require attention and exercise.

Their social nature means they thrive in active households. They need companionship and mental stimulation. If you can meet these needs, a Beagle could become a cherished member of your family. They offer loyalty, affection, and endless joy to those willing to share their lives with them.
